Artist’s Statement
Steven Perrette is a mid-career artist whose small and mid-scale works on paper frequently depict frenetic workings of the western world with a fascination with industrial and vintage ships and sailing boats.
Biography
Born: Australia 1962
Steven Perrette’s works on paper frequently depict the frenetic workings of the western world. Within his practice Perrette maintains a fascination with industrial and vintage ships and sailing boats along with roads and highways depicting a cacophony of cars, semi-trailers, cafes, gas stations and signs featuring corporate logos. The chaotic scenes depicted by Perrette in watercolour washes and expressive ink nib line work possess a stylistic wildness distinctive to the artist along with a controlled and balanced composition.
Steven Perrette has worked in the studio at Arts Project Australia since 2000, and had his first solo exhibition in the Arts Project Gallery in 2011. He has exhibited in numerous group shows including ‘Mission to Seafarers Victoria 2014 & 2017 ANL Maritime Art Prize’, Mission to Seafarers, Melbourne; ‘Turning the Page’, Gallery 101, Ontario, Canada; and ‘Melbourne Art Fair’, Royal Exhibition Building, Melbourne. His work is held in the National Gallery of Australia, and V-Line Collections.Influences
