  • Biography

My name is Neil Smith I am 40 years old I was born in Brisbane Australia where I lived until I was 20 years old. I was lucky enough to grow up with Aboriginal family who taught me a deep found respect for our land and of the indigenous ways.

I have recently found out I have Aboriginal heritage and my grandmother was part of the stolen generation she spent most of her childhood in a catholic orphanage.

I met my now wife on the internet she lived in Melbourne which I went to visit her and never left. We have been married since 2003. At the age of 30 I was diagnosed with stage two bowel cancer and had an operation to remove it followed by chemotherapy we were living in Hillside Victoria at the time after all that had happened we decided for a tree change.

We decided to move to Albury NSW where we lived for 7 years in that time our journey to have a son was long and tedious through IVF on the 3/12/17 we had our son and things were fantastic. Then due to health reasons and having no family near us we decided to move closer to my wife's parents for our son and our own wellbeing.

We moved to country Victoria near Shepparton and even though covid has been a huge thing in our lives since we sold our old house this move has been one on the best things we have done. While in Albury I did a lot of portrait art and that included colour pencil which is funny because I am colour blind so it is a difficult task for me to use that medium.
