Artist’s Statement
Our world is a place full of wonder and, for me, painting and drawing are tools to delve
deeper into our world and the people and places encountered along the way. I use my
work as a conduit to explore the way people everywhere connect to each other and the
world around them and how in turn we can relate to each other through our common
humanity. This is where I find the inspiration for my work . All my work is based on direct
experience. I only work from reference gathered on location or en plein air.
In the studio I work from my own digital reference photos and field drawings to develop
works. I’m strongly influenced by 19th and 20th century narrative based figurative work.
The Australian impressionists and narrative, observational work by artists travelling with
early explorers and colonial artists are of particular interest to me.Biography
I have been an exhibiting fine artist for the past 25 years working in a range of mediums principally pastel, Oil, watercolour and lithography. Maritime themes are a constant feature of my work.
